MBABANE – Mbabane Highlanders are on a signing spree.

The capital city giants have reportedly signed former Manzini Wanderers duo in Fabrice Mopina and Mandla Palma. A source close to the team, who spoke on condition of anonymity, revealed that Palma was given a short contract until the end of the season and depending on his input in the team, his contribution at the end of the season will be reviewed. “Highlanders needed someone experienced at the back after the departure of Aristote Tamuzi and Palma has been identified as a player who will help the team going forward,” said the source. The source further asserted that the ‘Black Bull’ felt they needed to bolster their attacking front and Mopina was the perfect choice. The source further said since Sabelo ‘Sikhali’ Ndzinisa left for Green Mamba, they needed a top striker who had a good eye for a goal. Mopina is said to have signed a one-year contract. Efforts to get a comment from Mbabane Highlanders Director Chief Ally Kgomongwe proved futile, as he was not immediately reached.

Meanwhile, Palma did confirm that they were in talks with Highlanders. He said they approached him and they asked for his documentation. “They are currently registering me. It is a contract that will elapse at the end of the season and an option to renew if I perform well. I have been training with Highlanders for the past two weeks,” said Palma.

Asked further about the deal, he said he would not like to comment much until the deal was finalised. He said it was promising that he would be a complete Highlanders player before Friday.
Efforts to get a comment from Mopina were futile as he could not be reached immediately. Palma was playing for South African ABC Motsepe League side Mbombela All Stars while Mopina was reportedly a free agent. He was playing for Wanderers. If things go well, the duo could debut against Nsingizini Hotspurs on Sunday at King Sobhuza II Memorial Stadium. Kick-off time is 3:30pm.
