MBABANE - Is the Sihlangu squad circulating on social media fake?

The Eswatini Football Association (EFA) has distanced itself from the purported Sihlangu squad that has been leaked on renowned social media platforms, mainly Facebook. The squad, which is said to be provisional has no Eswatini international on top of countless surprises in all departments. Eswatini internationals are Justice Figuareido, who plays for South Africa’s football second-tier side All Stars, as well right-back Lindo Mkhonta, who has just joined Zambia giants Zesco United.

Leaked

In the leaked squad, there was no place for two top goalkeepers, Sandanezwe Mathabela of Mbabane Swallows and Khanyakezwe Shabalala (Mbabane Highlanders). Both had made the cut in Sihlangu’s last outing late last year.
EFA Marketing and Communications Officer, Muzi Radebe, said the squad was not authentic and his office did not know about it. “I haven’t received any correspondence in as far as the national team is concerned,” said Radebe, when quizzed on the possible date of the release of the authentic squad.

Coach Dominic Kunene was yet to respond to a WhatsApp text sent to his phone at the time of compiling this report yesterday around noon. His phone rang unanswered. Kunene’s troops are expected back in camp at least early next month, ahead of the resumption of the Ivory Coast Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) 2024 Qualifiers. Sihlangu will play back-to-back fixtures against Cape Verde on the last two weekends of March. It will be round three and four matches. Sihlangu have a point to show for their campaign so far, after a draw with Togo and a defeat against Burkina Faso.
