NHLANGANO – Manzini Sea Birds have burst neighbours Manzini Wanderers’ bubble following a 1-0 win here yesterday.

After recording three straight wins, Wanderers were hoping to maintain their good run when they made a long trip to King Sobhuza II Memorial Stadium in Nhlangano for round 15 in the MTN Premier League.

Finished

Izinyoni Zolwandle, who finished ahead of Manzini Wanderers last season, scored the only goal of the match through Mfundo Zwane who was able to take advantage of a curling cross from Muzi Tsabedze in the first 10 minutes of the game. Sea Birds started brightly and had some early chances, as Tsabedze steered a low shot in the fourth minute, a metre wide, before Zwane failed to hit the target from a distance after a nice build-up play five minutes later.

The Sibusiso Mngomezulu-led charges were showing good cohesion in their play and they deservedly took the lead in the 10th minute from a pulsating counter attack which saw Sandumuzi Zwane play in Siphelele Dladla, who in turn split the defence with a delightful ball for Tsabedze, who swiftly put in a curling cross which saw Zwane opening the deadlock for Sea Birds.

Lead

Zwane was after opening the lead for his side stretched off the pitch and was rushed to Nhlangano Health Centre after colliding with Wanderers left back Manqoba Nhlabatsi. The player was later able to watch his side after being treated but highlighted that he was not feeling well after the big collision. Sea Birds was forced to make a substitution to replace the injured Zwane and Thembumenzi Mayisela came in. Sea Birds took the narrow lead to the interval. It took Wanderers until the 29th minute of the second half to have their first chance on goal - after a strong run by Phathizwe Mabuza,  who unleashed a powerful shot, but straight into the arms of  Sea Birds goalkeeper Bafana Ngwenya.

And as the second half wore on, Sea Birds should have added the second goal after Mthokozisi Gwebu was put on goal but the striker drove his effort wide. Wanderers had pressed hard for the equaliser on resumption of play but Sea Birds tightened their backdoor to return to winning ways.
