NHLANGANO – South Africa-born winger Tony ‘Ben-10’ Machacha was the hero for Mbabane Highlanders as he scored deep into added time.

This was during an MTN Premier League game played here yesterday. Machacha was introduced two minutes before regulation time only to be the hero for his team as he broke the hearts of the rookies Nsingizini Hotspurs when the game seemed to be destined for a goalless draw. He replaced another South Africa-born import in Kenneth Moloto.

He capitalised on a defence error by Nsingizini Hotspurs’ defenders, to easily slot home the goal past goalkeeper Sibusiso Dlamini, to complete a league double over the Gerald Phiri-led side. The black and white capital city giants won the first round match with the same score like yesterday. The game started on a high tempo, as both teams searched for an early goal which was elusive for the betterment of the game. It was the host team who made the first attempt at goal, through debutant Neliso Myeni, who unleashed a scorcher outside the box which narrowly missed the target.

Just 20 minutes into the game Highlanders Coach Solly Luvehngo was shown a yellow card for invading the pitch in protest of a penalty after Hotspurs defender handled the ball in the box.The score was 0-0 at half time. The second half saw the tempo of the game falling, as the teams failed to create meaningful scoring chances, until the last eight minutes of added time when Machacha scored the winner. The result saw Insingizi yezulu still failing to collect maximum points in the new year, while Highlanders are now level on points with rivals Mbabane Swallows on 28 points. However, Highlanders remain fourth but are now five points adrift of the top spot.
