MAVUSO BLACKOUT BLOW FOR PLE

MBABANE - The Mavuso Sports Centre is closed for MTN Premier League games this weekend.

This was confirmed by Eswatini Investment Promotion Authority (EIPA) yesterday after news started circulating that the stadium might not be available this weekend. Sources claimed that the pitch was to go under rehabilitation and also the issue of power faults might be the cause the temporarily closure of Mavuso of Sports Centre. Mangaliso Mkhatshwa, Senior Marketing Officer at EIPA said it was true that Mavuso Sports Centre was not available.

“The facility is currently experiencing a power issue. An underground electricity cable that supplies high capacity power to the Sports Centre experienced a fault a week ago. An electrical contractor is on site working on fixing the problem,” said Mkhatshwa. He also said rains caused delays on work since the exact spot where the cable was hadto be dug up from underground.

“There have also been delays in getting some specialised electrical materials and equipment from SA. “This issue has however been prioritised in order to return the power supply back to normal for those who need to use the facility,” he added. “The facility will be available for football and other activities as soon as the electricity fault is fixed. “We are also working on restoring the soccer field after the heavy rains resulted in some damage to the playing surface (grass),” he explained.

“This means that the facility will not be available for this weekend’s games. “Rehabilitation of the playing surface will take at least a week and a half. Once these two issues (power and playing surface) have been fixed, the stadium will be available for football matches,” he said. This means there would be no games at Mavuso Sports Centre this weekend. This is the same venue where big games are usually staged in the absence of Somhlolo National Stadium that is undergoing renovations.
