MBABANE – Denver Sundowns enterprising winger Mike Dombo is back in the country after almost a month away in Malta for assessment.

Malta is an island country between Italy and Libya and is often considered a part of southern Europe. The former Manzini Wanderers dribbling wizard was invited for trials by Club Deportovo Banerchea, who wanted to assess him over a period of two weeks and he left just after scoring the winning goal against defending champions Royal Leopard on January 14, 2023. The Cameroonian player revealed to this publication yesterday that he had a successful stint with the European club and they were impressed with him.

Contract

However, he could not sign as he was given a short-term contract which did not sit well with his agent.
“My agent and the club didn’t agree about the six months contract and as a player there was nothing that I could have done. Had my agent agreed on the contract, I would have signed on the dotted line,” Dombo said.

He said he learnt a lot while in Malta and was looking forward to sharing his knowledge with his teammates at the Gcina Dlamini-led youthful side, which had not won a single match since he departed to the European country.
“The tempo of the game there is too high and discipline is very important. I have truly learnt a lot during my stint in Malta; I’m now looking forward to joining my team as I will be home tomorrow (today),” he said. He also said Sundowns was his home, as he had a running contract with them, so he was looking forward to donning the Manzini-based side’s jersey and help them win games.

Declined

Meanwhile, Ikappa Kappa Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Elvis Dube confirmed that the player was given a six-month contract, which was declined by his unnamed agent and they were expecting him back home soon.
Dube was quoted by this publication as saying that they were ready to release Dombo if Club Deportovo Banerchea was offering him a contract; however, they were made known that he had a running contract with Sundowns.
