MBABANE – It is down to the wire in the second-tier of local football for the E50 000 first round ‘carrot’.

This comes after Ezulwini United walloped rookies Kappa Kappa 3-1 in an MTN National First Division League game played at the Prince of Wales Sports Ground yesterday. The Lobamba-based side opened the scoreboard just four minutes into the game through the enterprising forward Andile Mamba. They added the other six minutes before half-time through Belarmino Jose Albino, who capitalised on poor goalkeeping from Khayelihle Malambe to slot home the second goal.

The sides went to the break with United enjoying the 2-0 lead. The host team enjoyed much possession in the second stanza and kept the Mayiwane-based side on their toes as they created numerous scoring chances which they failed to convert into goals. Skipper Mphucuko ‘Smoothies’ Dlamini and second half substitute Michael Parkim were the main culprits. The former Mbabane Highlanders player ‘Smoothies’ made amends of the chances they let go as he finally scored 10 minutes before the end of regulation time.

The visitors got a consolation goal through Muzi Malindzisa, who scored from the spot after Henock Mukaka handled the ball in the box. This result means that the winner of the first round incentive will be decided today after the game between Rangers and Sisonke at King Sobhuza II Memorial Stadium in Nhlangano. Rangers and Ezulwini are tied on 28 points, but the latter is on top because of the head-to-head rule as they won the first round fixture.
