OUR RECOMMENDATIONS HEARD – SPORTS ASSOCIATIONS

MBABANE – Eswatini Sport and Recreation Council (ESRC) affiliates are thrilled by the over E11 million increment in the sports budget allocation for 2023/2024 financial year.

ESRC, which is an umbrella organisation for all sports in the country, received an estimated budget of E19 415 221 for the year 2023/24 compared to the E7 724 710 for the ending government financial year 2022/23. According to Finance Minister Neal Rijkenberg’s speech delivered in Parliament yesterday, ESRC allocation from the Ministry of Sports, Arts and Youth Affairs’ E85 million budget allocation was up by  E11 690 511.

First to express excitement over this increment was Parliament Ministry of Sports, Arts and Youth Affairs Portfolio Committee Chairman Vulimpompi Nhleko, who is also Nkwene Inkhundla Member of Parliament (MP). He was elated by the overall increment for the ministry. Meanwhile, different associations expressed their gratitude to the government and the ministry for considering their recommendations. Most were optimistic that they would receive increased allocation from ESRC, while saying it would also strengthen their grassroots developments and international participation performance.
