LINDO SUFFERS FIRST DEFEAT IN ZAMBIA

MBABANE – Good things come to an end.

The adage holds true for Eswatini export Lindo Mkhonta who was unfortunately on the losing side for the first time after joining Zambia Super League outfit Zesco United. The former Young Buffaloes right-back who currently plies his trade in Zambia was on the losing side on Saturday afternoon when his club got defeated 2-0 by FC Muza in away game that was played at Nakambala Stadium.

Defeat

The defeat was the first for the Ndola-based side since Mkhonta joined and the 2020/2021 Zambian champions who are currently having a difficult season. They sit on the eighth position and 12 points behind current log leader Power Dynamos. Mkhonta who signed a two-year contract with United hit the ground running, providing an assist in his debut game. He started lefe in Zambia with a debut win against Green Eagles. He was also instrumental in United’s 1-1 draw match against Power Dynamos and in the 2-0 win against Napsa Stars. The 31-year-old Young Buffaloes defence kingpin had earlier mentioned in our publication that he had eyes firmly focused on playing a major role at United after starting in four consecutive league games.

Successful

Founded in 1974, Zesco United is one of Zambia’s most successful clubs in history and has reached the semi-finals of the TOTALEnergies CAF Champions League in 2016 where they lost to eventual winners Mamelodi Sundowns of South Africa. Meanwhile, another Eswatini international, being Justice Figuareido was instrumental in his side’s 1-0 win against Venda Football Academy on Saturday afternoon in a game that was played at Thohoyandou Stadium. The  former Denver Sundowns player gave a man of the match performance. Figuareido, who was loaned to All Stars by TS Galaxy, was in the team that were defeated 2-0 by Orlando Pirates in Nedbank Cup Last 32 a fortnight ago.
