ANOTHER INTERNATIONAL MOVE AWAITS LOCAL STAR AS: G. MAMBA SKIPPER
MBABANE – Another local player is linked with a lucrative Zambian deal, as doors continue to open for Eswatini footballers beyond the country’s borders.
With the transfer window periods for this season already closed, the deal is expected to be concluded before the upcoming season 2023/2024. News reaching the Sports Desk suggests that Green Mamba Captain Mxolisi Mkhontfo might share the same stage with former Young Buffaloes captain Lindo Mkhonta. Mkhonta is currently in the books of nine-time Zambia Super League Champions, Zesco United.
He was exported over the past window period in January. According to the report, the MTN Premier Legaue January Player of the Month is aware of the Zambian team poaching him as well as his club. Well informed insiders and sources close to the player also confirmed the eminent transfer on condition of anonymity. However, Green Mamba when reached for comment distanced themselves from the report. Mandla Sibiya, the teams Chief Executive Officer (CEO), said he had only learnt of it only on social media.
“There is nothing official that has reached the team yet. I’m also learning it from you after seeing it on Facebook,” said Sibiya briefly. If the move is successful, the player will become the first to move out of the Ernest Mavuso’s charges and play beyond the country’s borders. Green Mamba will today take on Tambuti in their quest to consolidate their top spot on the MTN League charts.
Once the deal gets concluded, the 28-year-old will become the fourth player to have moved out of the uniformed forces teams’ camp onto the international stage. Some of those players who have achieved a similar feat include his brother Mthunzi ‘Xavi’ Mkhontfo who has played for Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) top side As Vita while he was still at Leopard. Before his three-year contract elapsed, he was joined by Mbabane Swallows’ Felix Badenhorst.
Former Royal Leopard Bonginkhosi ‘Manyovu’ Dlamini, currently at Mbabane Highlanders also managed to join Angolan side Sagrada Esperenca. Currently, there are only two players playing their trade beyond the country’s borders. Beside Sihlangu’s Captain Mkhonta, former Denver Sundowns and Cape Town All Stars Justice Figareido is also the country’s export.
