FINLAND’S KALEVI CELEBRATES 50TH PARKRUN

MBABANE – Kalevi Kairemo, a visitor from Finland, completed his 50th parkrun at the Mbabane Parkrun on Saturday.

The Mbabane Parkrun visitor, who participates in the Veteran Male (VM) 65-69 category, has competed in nine different locations. They include Tokoinranta Parkrun (35), Puolarmaari Parkrun (8), Vaaksyn Parkrun (one), Tampere Parkrun all in Finland, Poolbeg Parkrun (one) in Ireland, Elagin Ostov Parkrun (one) in Russia, Frederic Back Parkrun (one), Central Parkrun (one) all in Canada and Mbabane Parkrun (one). This record makes Kairemo be classified as a world tourist as he completed parkruns across different countries. He began his parkrun journey on September 29, 2018 at Tokoinranta Parkrun in Finland, where he set a time of 32:52 minutes and finished on position 57. His current personal best time is 29:39 minutes which he recorded at Tokoinranta on September 14, 2019.

Meanwhile, Mbabane Parkrunner Katherine Moir completed her 100th run on Saturday. She participates in VW 55-59 category. She began her parkrun journey on May 27, 2017 at the Mbabane Parkrun where she set a time of 55:28 minutes and finished on position 67 overall. On the other hand, Neil Robinson completed his 150th volunteer duties at the Mbabane Parkrun. Across all parkruns, Robinson has completed 195 duties. He is currently the parkrun Ambassador for the Eswatini and Eastern Mpumalanga Regions. The 205 Mbabane Parkrun welcomed 83 participated including three visitors from Finland and England. Swazi Slojo’s athlete Sibusiso Shabangu claimed the first finish in a time of 17:26 minutes. Last weekend first runner home, Mduduzi Dlamini claimed the second position in a time of 17:45 minutes. In the ladies category, in the absence of Phiwokuhle Bulunga, it was the visitor from the United Kingdom Lindsey Clegg, who claimed the first finish.
