WOUNDED ‘WESLIANS’ CHASE ‘BIRDS’
MBABANE – Manzini Wanderers and Mbabane Swallows will meet in a competitive match again for the second time this season in Manzini.
Three points will be high on the agenda, with the ‘Birds’ aiming to close the gap between themselves and the log leaders, Green Mamba, who look to take a step closer to the league title. Swallows go to this titanic fixture with the top spot within touching distance, while Wanderers are at the bottom four of the MTN Premier League standings. Up to 23 points separate the two sides stationed at third and 11th on the charts, respectively.
Mbabane Swallows under Caleb Ngwenya have shown that they mean business this season and the mission to go to Africa looks like a possible dream. Wanderers, on the other hand, are having a bad spell which they will want to put behind them. The hub giants will welcome Swallows on Sunday without one of their co-coaches in Terisayi Changara who was shown the exit door after a string of poor results since the start of the league and will be up against their former player Neliswa ‘Tiger’ Dlamini, who will want to remind the maroon and white outfit of what he is made of.
This fixture has proved to be one to watch when looking at the recent games and Wanderers usually come motivated for the match. Meanwhile, the game is also one where Umkhonto KaShaka, as Mbabane Swallows are fondly known, will have to use to send a statement that they really intend to challenge for the league this season. Wanderers will be crossing fingers and hoping that their ‘twin towers’ in Sihle Mkhonta and Sandile Mhlanga would be available for the tie which will need experienced players to foil Swallows’ explosive attack. The red and white capital city giants have scored an avalanche of 34 goals compared to Wanderers’ 13..The game might also see fan favourite Sizolwethu ‘Nunu’ Shabalala making a return after missing the better part of the season following an injury.
