MBABANE – Premier League of Eswatini (PLE) Executive Member Charles Matsebula has come out guns blazing in reaction  to Mbabane Swallows General Manager (GM) Sandile ‘Beyond 2000’ Zwane’s statement early in the week.

The Pigg’s Peak Black Swallows chairman was addressing the media in a press briefing which was held at Galito’s in Mbabane yesterday, when reacting to the statement which was made by Zwane on national radio, the Eswatini Broadcasting and Information Services (EBIS 1) Sports Show on Monday. The Umkhonto KaShaka GM publicly denounced the leadership of the PLE and said it was wrong that big teams in the country were not represented in the executive. This did not sit well with Matsebula, who called the media to address the issue in his capacity as an executive member not on behalf of the PLE.

Charged

He said the allegations made by Zwane, which were directed to the seven-member executive, had been going on for a long time. “As an executive member of the PLE, such makes me very angry and I felt that I should put this in order or else officials would be charged using the laws of the game,” Matsebula warned. He said he was in the dark as to how could an ordinary official undermine them, yet they were elected into office by the teams’ directors using the PLE Constitution, which stated that in order for a person to be elected into the executive, he or she should have served in football for four years.

“If I can remember very well, most of us were running clubs in the premier league. Attacking us is like he is undermining the integrity of his chairman, because he elected us into office,” he said. Matsebula also said the statement which was made by Zwane directed to them was inciting the PLE to the supporters and was not good for the image of football in the country. He highlighted that if a certain team or individual had concerns or complaints on how the PLE was run, there were channels that were to be followed.
