MADLENYA WITHDRAWS PROTEST
MBABANE – Madlenya have changed their mind on a protest that they lodged during their replay match against Manzini Sea Birds.
Sea Birds, on the other hand, have persisted on their own protest. The replay match was played on March 1 at KaLanga Technical Centre in Siteki and resumed at 45 minutes. The initial fixture was abondoned at half time due to unavailability of an ambulance on the day. During the replay, the MTN Premier League rookies lodged a protest, challenging that Sea Birds’ players in Mthokozisi Gwebu and Innocent Dlamini were playing without cards. Meanwhile, this protest was not confirmed by the team. This was according to Public Relations Officer (PRO) Nokwazi Gamedze.
Gamedze said the team felt like withdrawing their complaint. According to the MTN League Rules and Regulations, the club shall pay a summary fine of E5 000 for its withdrawal. “Confirmation of a protest in writing plus supporting evidence in duplicate must reach the PLE office within two working days, excluding Saturdays, Sundays and Public Holidays, after the match otherwise it shall be null and void. A bank stamped deposit slip for a non-refundable protest fee of E5 000 shall accompany the confirmation. The team that loses the protest shall be required to pay costs of the sitting as calculated by the PLE. A protesting Club that fails to confirm its protest or abandons it shall be summarily fined E5 000 by the PLE,” reads Article 13.7.
Meanwhile, Sea Birds did not abandon its protest. “Yes, we confirmed the protest we lodged on the day. We are still waiting for the dates for the sitting of our case. We are positive that the judgment will favour us as we were disgruntled about some matters pertaining to the match,” said Manzini Sea Birds PRO Thami Cebe. As per the rules, Premier League of Eswatini upon receipt of a protest, shall charge the offending party with committing the offence complained about and institute a disciplinary hearing as soon as possible, wherein the said protest shall be tabled before the Eswatini Football Association (EFA) Disciplinary Committee for determination.
