ALL AFRICA GAMES POSTPONED
MBABANE – All Africa Games have been postponed.
The continent’s main multi-sports showpiece games were billed for Accra in Ghana in August this year. The African Union (AU), the Association of National Olympic Committees for Africa (ANOCA) and the Association of African Sports Confederations (AASC) has announced that that quadrennial event will now take place in 2024, with the hosting rights remaining with the host city Accra. Athletes had to juggle between a jam packed 2023 sports calendar domestically and continentally, beside local competitions, there are at least six main African multi-sports they are expected to partake in after the postponement of the All Africa Games.
The Local Organising Committee (LOC) confirmed the latest developments on their website. It said there was no specific dates yet given for the competition next year and said the postponement was prompted by Ghana’s struggles to deliver infrastructure in time for the games. They further noted that 12 out the 24 proposed disciplines of the Africa Games would now serve as qualifiers for Paris 2024 Olympics Games. Some of the 12 disciplines are athletics, volleyball, beach volleyball, swimming, tennis, and cycling and judo.
