‘KOKO’ PASSES MEDICAL TEST IN SA
MBABANE – Manzini Wanderers are set to lose one of their prized assets in Njabulo ‘Koko’ Gama next season to South Africa (SA)’s ABC Motsepe League side Mpumalanga Black Aces.
The former Ezulwini United galloping striker has been on Amazayoni’s wish list for a long time now. Early in the season, he was invited for assessment. The player impressed the Mpumalanga-based outfit technical bench and was on the verge to sign on the dotted line; however, an injury hindered that move.
Released
The 2018/19 Swazi Trac Hhohho Super League top goalscorer was released by Aces to join Wanderers in the 2022 Bible Society Cup, where he sustained the injury in the finals against Mbabane Highlanders, who went on to be champions after beating Liweseli 1-0. Amazayoni had sent some of their officials to watch the player in a game situation with the hope to sign him, but injury struck and Gama had to stay in the country, while nursing his injury.
The player alleged that the medical bills were paid by the SA team as they were interested in signing him for the 2023/24 season. ‘Koko’ revealed that he had to miss the maroon and white do-or-die match against Tambankulu Callies in a relegation battle game which was played at the Mavuso Sports Centre this past Sunday to attend a medical test.
Won
Wanderers won the match 2-1 to escape relegation. “I’m happy that I passed the medical test at Mpumalanga Black Aces and I now look forward to joining them for the pre-season camp,” Gama said. He was, however, quick to highlight that the matter was now between the two clubs in terms of negotiations, but on his side, he said he was ready to play in South Africa.
He said it had been his dream to one day play beyond the country’s borders. Should his move eventually materialise, he will be the third international player from Eswatini following in the footsteps of former Young Buffaloes defender Lindokuhle Mkhonta, who plies his trade in Zambia for ZESCO United and Justice Figareido, who plays for All Stars in SA. On the other hand, Gama revealed that he would now leave the club a happy man after helping them survive the chop. Meanwhile, no immediate comment could be drawn from Wanderers by the time this report was compiled.
