MBABANE – Their 2022/23 MTN Premier League campaing is over.

That is the story of five MTN Premier League players, who have been nabbed by the yellow card rule after accumulating six yellow cards this campaign.  These players will not take part in the remaining games of the season and these are Mbabane Highlanders top defender Peter Dlamini, who will serve a two-match ban.

Remaining

This means that the former national team Sihlangu player will not take part in the two remaining games of his team, which automatically ends his participation in the league. The player will miss his team’s last two games, starting with tomorrow’s match against Tambuti and then Highlanders’ final game of the season against Manzini Wanderers.
Another player who headlines the suspensions is log leaders Green Mamba defender Sibongakonkhe Silenge, who shall celebrate the league title on the ‘stands’, should the Correctional Services side eventually win the league.

Suspended

The Premier League of Eswatini (PLE) has also suspended three other players for the last two games of the season, who are Moneni Pirates midfield maestro Mbongeni ‘Mshishi’ Magagula. He will miss the Manzini derby against Manzini Wanderers billed for the Mavuso Sports Centre on Sunday. Tambuti midfielder Phinda Ginindza is another elite league player whose season is over as he will also serve his suspension in the next two matches.

Meanwhile, rookies Nsingizini Hotspurs will have to play their last two games without the services of Ncamiso Thwala as he is also nabbed by this rule. On the other hand, the PLE has suspended four players for the Week 25 games and these are Royal Buffaloes marksman Sandile ‘Saviola’ Gamedze, Leopard striker Thembisa Shabangu, Highlanders silky midfielder Lindani ‘Rio’ Matsenjwa as well as Wanderers’ key player Amos Adefemi.

Relegated Tambankulu Callies will be without the service of Ntokozo Dlamini. Interestingly, second-placed Young Buffaloes will be without Sandile ‘Saviola’ Gamedze, who scored the winner against Green Mamba on Wednesday, when they play his former team in rookies Madlenya on Sunday.

Cautions

The PLE suspended the players using Article 9.2.1. “Any player and/or team official with three yellow cautions (iyellow cards) in any season shall be suspended from participation in the next one match to be played by his team in an official competition under the auspices of the PLE,” reads the Article in part. Article 9.2.1.2 states that, six cautions in any season shall result in a suspension from participation in the next two matches to be played by a team in an official competition under the auspices of the PLE.
