LUCA, HAYLEY BAG ANOTHER GOLD FOR TEAM ESWATINI
MBABANE – Eswatini’s flag is being hoisted by swimmers Luca Fraser and Hayley Hoy in the ongoing African Swimming Confederation (CANA) Zone IV Championships in Luanda, Angola.
Just when they had already made headlines locally for winning gold medals. Yesterday they added to their count.
The duo won more gold medals, with Fraser earning his fourth gold and second silver medals. He now has four gold, two silver and one bronze while Hayley won her first gold while she had already won silver on the second day of the competition.

Fraser earned his latest gold and silver in the 100m breaststroke and 50m backstroke after he raced to finish in 1:18:75 minutes and 34:75 seconds to win respectively. Hoy won gold in the 100m butterfly in 1:09:12 minutes. Hoy followed in the footsteps of Fraser who has been in fine form since the championships started. Before yesterday, he had won the country medals in the 200m breaststroke (gold), 100m breaststroke (gold) and the 50m butterfly (gold).
Also in the medals count is youngster Tiano Fraser, who won bronze in the 50m breaststroke on the first day.
Eswatini Swimming Association (ESA) Secretary General (SG) Nozipho Mahlalela said as an association they were so proud of all the swimmers in Angola.
“It’s raining medals and Personal Best (PBs) times for Eswatini at the CANA Zone IV Championships and it comes as no surprise, these athletes spent two weeks in camp, away from the comfort of their homes to prepare for their victory. We are very proud of our athletes for displaying true sportsmanship, even if champions aren’t born, they sure can be built,” she said.
Team Eswatini currently has 11 medals and 22 PB times in the competition which will end tomorrow.
The event features teams from around the region, compromising of boys and girls aged 11 years and older in different categories.
