‘BIRDS’ GM READY TO STEP DOWN
MBABANE – Shocker!
Mbabane Swallows long-serving General Manager (GM) Sandile ‘Beyond 2000’ Zwane is ready to step down from the red and white capital city giants, as he intends climbing the ladder in his football administration career. Zwane graduated from being Umkhonto KaShaka’s first choice goalkeeper to the management structure under the stewardship of the slain Chairman, Victor ‘Maradona’ Gamedze. His good work as Swallows manager saw him at one time managing the senior national team Sihlangu, during the reign of now Minister of Sports, Culture and Youth Affairs Harries ‘Madze’ Bulunga.
achieved
Zwane has achieved almost everything on offer in local football, with a football career which spans over two decades. He recently bagged a trophy with Umkhonto KaShaka, the Africa Day trophy, after they stunned SA’s DStv Premiership side Amazulu in a game which was played at the Harry Gwala Stadium, this past Friday. Speaking on national radio, the Eswatini Broadcasting and Information Services (EBIS) Sports Show yesterday, the former national team Sihlangu manager revealed that he was ready to step down as Swallows GM. “It is my wish that I leave the team to add my experience to the Premier League of Eswatini (PLE) or the Eswatini Football Association (EFA) and help improve soccer in the country as my good job at Swallows is there for all to see,” Zwane said. He also revealed that according to his plans, the 2022/23 season should have been his last at club level football administration to join the PLE or EFA, to help improve the standard of the sport with the vast experience from Swallows.
value
‘Beyond 2000’, however, was quick to highlight that he was not saying that those currently in office at both football organisations were not doing a good job, but he wanted to add value now for the benefit of the sport in the country. “It’s not that I don’t want to leave, but certain challenges pop up when I am about to step down as you will recall that I was about to quit during Gamedze’s time as chairman, but unfortunately tragic struck and I had to stay put in the team,” he said. Zwane said he felt it would have been wrong timing leaving the team after the demise of Gamedze, as it would have brought negative impact to the club. He said it was agreed that once the President Archbishop Bheki Lukhele was fully settled, he should then appoint his management committee (MC). “I’m ready to step down now and help the team as a consultant as I intend moving out to join the PLE or EFA,” he said.
He further disclosed that he would not cry if the president could announce an MC without his name as he was ready to go as he had played his part in the team. On the other hand, Zwane revealed that this would help Lukhele to achieve his goals with the team as sometimes they differed in opinions since he was from another leadership, that of Gamedze, which had other ideas of attaining goals, which are different from the current leadership’s ways.
