BUFFALOES, GREEN MAMBA AFTER PIRATES’ ‘STINA’
MBABANE – Moneni Pirates central defender Nkosinathi ‘Stina’ Shongwe, who has had a great season with the club, has attracted interest from the forces teams.
‘Stina’ has been able to cement a spot in the Pirates side in the past 2022/23 MTN Premier League season, partnering with veteran defender Menzi ‘Magawugawu’ Simelane. Latest news regarding the player has revealed through a close source that ‘Stina’, who has a contact with the club ending in the 2023/24 season in June, is in the shopping list of reigning league winners Green Mamba and Young Buffaloes.
“The forces have both shown a big interest in the player who has had a magnificent season in the club. The have had serious talks with the player and it will definitely go down to who will be able to entice the player with a job in the forces. They are all serious with signing the defender who still has age on his side and I can guarantee you that he won’t be playing for Moneni Pirates next season, provided the club is willing to release him. This is highly likely to happen because Moneni Pirates will not stand in the players way,” revealed the source.
The source went on to reveal that the player was open to a move away from the team. “‘Stina’ wants a new challenge away from Moneni Pirates, which he feels will not be able to compete in the league. He wants a team that will be fighting for the league and one of his dreams is to play in the Africa competitions which is something that the player can get in the forces team which are currently dominating local football,” added the source.
Meanwhile, Pirates Public Relations Officer (PRO) Mbuso Hlophe said the club had not yet received any offers for the player. “We are yet to receive an offer for any of our players. As a club we will be having a meeting on Sunday where we will discuss, among other things, players who will be coming in the club and having a review of the past season,” he said. The forces will reportedly not have their way with the defender who has also attracted interest in one of the big three in the country. Efforts to source comments from Buffaloes and Green Mamba were fruitless at the time of compiling this report.
