NCOBILE ‘THE SILENT KILLER’
A lot is said and done about our sports personalities but who has ever thought about the various nicknames we call them on a daily basis?
What’s the story behind that nickname, does anyone ever call you by your real name anymore, and does it make or break you? This space basically looks at that and for our fourth edition, we have none other than the heroic Eswatini Ladies Pool National Team Captain Ncobile ‘S’ncobesh’ Dlamini, also called ‘The Silent Killer’ by many, especially in South Africa, where she is based, after her exploits in the South Africa Blackball National Championships last week. Her coach also has one for the country’s hero who earned herself over E10 000 in prizes as she got two runners-up prizes and one first prize where she beat reigning world singles champion in South African Beatrice Morake in another category for the ladies. Find out what the captain has to say about her nicknames.
Ncobile ‘S’ncobesh’ Dlamini
My nickname was S’ncobesh when I was growing up.... Taken from my name Ncobile, but when I went to play for the first time in Johannesburg and won some serious games, people were surprised and wondered who I was. I could hear them say ‘who is that girl?’ and they even asked me openly. They started calling me ‘Small Player’ due to the fact I was new to the game that side. Then from thereon, my coach Liza Nxenge endorsed the nickname. It kind of motivated me, especially because I was from another country but given a warm reception. It made encouraged me to fight and show them that I’m more capable and talented than they thought of me. And with God by my side, now I’m one of the best in Africa and number one in my country. And now they call me ‘The Silent Killer’ because I beat the best players against all odds in my first time playing the SA Blackball National Championships.
