EX-BAROKA COACH OPEN TO ESWATINI OFFERS
MBABANE – “I’m willing to take Eswatini football by storm.”
These were the comments of DStv Premiership Coach Kgoloko Thobejane who was previously in the books of Baroka FC. The coach said if the right Eswatini offer could come his way, he was willing to coach in the MTN Premier League. Thobejane shot to fame after uttering the famous words, ‘Football can kill you. It will kill you a real death! You will die because of football’. He resigned as head coach of North West ABC Motsepe League side Som FC in February, this year. The coach left his job just four months into the job, as he cited interference from management. Since leaving the club, Thobejane has been at home while waiting for his next club. In an interview yesterday afternoon with this publication, the coach said he would not mind coming to coach here in Eswatini.
Big
“I know a bit about Eswatini football and I know the big teams Mbabane Swallows, Mbabane Highlanders, Manzini Wanderers, which are all good teams. I know there are also the forces teams which are now dominating the local league,” he said. The outspoken coach revealed that he knew some current and retired players playing in the league. “I know Tony Tsabedze, Yuki Masina and Felix Badenhorst. I believe Eswatini has many good players. I have so much love for Eswatini people and I would not mind helping some of the teams in that league with my philosophy.
“I’m someone who always wants to challenge myself and I would really love to work with a team that is ambitious of competing for the league honours next season. To me is not about the money but about making an impact in football and as long as I have players who believe in themselves, my team can do wonders,” the coach said. Currently, the big three teams in the country have coaches, with Inkunzi Emnyama led by Solly Luvhengo. Swallows are under the tutelage of Caleb Ngwenya and Manzini Wanderers are mentored by Nyanga ‘Crooks’ Hlophe. However, the latter is yet to be given a contract at the club.
Resigned
Thobejane, who once resigned as a life orientation teacher at Mogodumo Primary School in Lebowakgomo to fully focus on coaching, is clearly one football coach not short on confidence. In the 2019/20 season, he declared that he felt he was the right man to steer Kaizer Chiefs to glory. In fact, the gaffer even went as far as suggesting that he would do a better job at Naturena than former coaches of the Soweto giants Giovanni Solinas and Ernst Middendorp combined.
At the time, Thobejane was on track to guide Baroka to the Motsepe Foundation Championship promotional play-offs.He had won seven out of nine games in Stream A, and they were two points behind log leaders Orbit College. At the end of the season, they were nine points adrift of Orbit, who eventually won Stream A after 14 games.
