MUSHIN, MNQITHI EMPOWER LOCAL COACHES

MBABANE – Top South Africa’s coaches have embarked on a journey to empower Eswatini gaffers.

The two coaches are former SA DStv Premiership side Kaizer Chiefs mentor Mushin Ertugral and championship winning gaffer in Mamelodi Sundowns’ Mancoba Mnqithi. The programme, according to the International Federation of Football Association (FIFA)-accredited Agent Dingane Maduma, started a few months back as the local coaches were taken through the basics of coaching by their South African counterparts. He said since the programme started, they had received an overwhelming response from top elite league coaches.

Maduna revealed that the programme was kick-started after the Turkish coach had drilled the locals on the basics of coaching through the Zoom platforms; the numbers improved as more joined the group. “We then engaged coach Mnqithi last Thursday, who unpacked the coaching basics which lasted for close to two and half-hours,” Maduma said.

He said this was a first-of-its kind, as he received so many coaches not only from Eswatini, but different countries as well and was hopeful that the programme would bear the desired fruits. “We will engage coaches Stuart Baxter and Patrick Carteron next week as they have agreed to be our football guests,” he said. He further revealed that some of the coaches who also empowered the local gaffers were Luc Eymael, Gavin Hunt, John Wall and Tom Santilief, to mention but a few.

Meanwhile, Eswatini Football Coaches Association (EFCA) Secretary General (SG) Musa Mamba, acknowledged that some of their members, including him, were part of the group empowered by the foreign experts organised by Maduma. “I joined the group in the interest of the association as I wanted to know what Maduma was doing and I declared that. Basically my presence is technical,” Mamba said.

Initiative

He revealed that Maduma wrote to the EFCA Chairperson, Anthony Mdluli and Eswatini Football Association (EFA) Technical Director Boy ‘Bizzah’ Mkhonta to let them know of his initiative. Mamba said they tried to engage Maduma to clarify his mandate, but their effort was futile. On a lighter note though, the SG disclosed that the local coaches were happy about the information they got from the foreign experts. Former Royal Leopard award-winning Coach Sifiso ‘Nuro’ Ntibane said the imitative by Maduma had helped them a lot as they shared information virtually with well-known foreign coaches and he thanked him for the great initiative.
