MBABANE – The Mbabane derby takes centre stage in the Premier League of Eswatini (PLE) Under-19 Development League today.

The much-anticipated game between Mbabane Swallows and Mbabane Highlanders is billed for the University of Eswatini (UNESWA) Sports Ground, starting at 3pm. The two capital city giants are going to this epic clash with Umkhonto KaShaka occupying the fourth spot with 17 points in nine games. While their neighbours, Inkunz’emnyama are on third with 18 points in the same number of games. The black and white capital city giants are tied with Denver Sundowns on points, Ikappa Kappa are sitting on the second spot.

The young Umkhonto KaShaka will be banking all their hopes on the deadly winger in goal-machine Lulama Mkhaliphi. The youngster has visited the back of the net 10 times as the Bonkhe Simelane-led side has scored 23 goals in the nine outings so far in the season. Highlanders will have to guide against the likes of former national team and Royal Leopard midfield maestro Mxolisi ‘Stopper’ Mtsetfwa’s marauding son Junior, who drives Swallows from the belly of the park.

This game is indeed not one for faith hearted as the ‘Bull’s kraal also has capable players who can cause havoc to any side, the likes of galloping right winger Nuno Dos Santos. This youngster’s telling crosses and runs down the flanks gives many defenders hard times to deal with. The black and white side will be looking at the creativity of midfield maestro Thandokuhle ‘Ballio’ Dlamini to dispatch lethal passes to the strikers. Meanwhile, the two sides come to this fixture with their confidence high, as they recorded victories from their previous matches. Swallows walloped Nsingizini Hotspurs 2-7 in a game played at the King Sobhuza II Memorial Stadium, while Highlanders outclassed Correctional Services side, Green Mamba 4-0 at UNESWA Sports Ground. The PLE Under-19 League pacesetters are Royal Leopard on 21 points, with two games to play. This development league will play the first round only as it started mid-way through the 2022/23 season.
