EZULWINI - It’s all set now for the second edition of the Lubombo Legends Homecoming tomorrow.

The Homecoming charity event started last year with Nsingizini Hotspurs boss Derrick Shiba’s Siphambanweni Milling becoming the main sponsor. They are still around and have improved their contribution, remaining the marquee sponsor of the legendary footballers’ day in the Lubombo Region. The event is about the region’s former two elite rivals, Mhlume FC and Simunye FC, who were financially supported by the Mhlume and Simunye sugar mills. Former stars like Khayelihle ‘Karas’ Dlamini, Sipho ‘City’ Sibandze, Mugabe ‘Giggs’ Makama (Mbabane Highlanders), Edwin Matsebula (now Royal Leopard Head Coach), Ernest Mavuso (Green Mamba coach), the late Bonginkosi ‘Sdudla’ Sibiya (Manzini Wanderers) and Vusi ‘Kosh’ Thumbatha (Young Buffaloes) are among the renowned names for the all-day event. Some corporate partners have bought into the soccer legend’s soccer idea and threw their weight to join Siphambanweni as partners. These are Instacash, Clear-out Fashions and Sports, G. Fox and Mulasport. “Instacash has agreed to provide lunch incentives to players whose numbers are registered for their mobile transfer service. The Media XI as our special partners will benefit from these incentive as well,” event organiser in Social and Recreational Games Eswatini (SARGE) Interim President Nathi ‘Mnathis’ Dlamini confirmed.

He encouraged all the media houses to send representatives to the event to enjoy the festivities, while also leading by example that exercise is good for one’s health and fitness.
“The members of the public and residents from Lubombo will have the opportunity to meet and watch some of their favourite sports and general news journalists like John Molelekeng, Phathizwe, Fabrice (Eswatini TV), Chris ‘Fabregas’ Dlamini, Mengameli ‘Menganyosi’ Mabuza (Times), Mdockies, Sihlabane (EBIS) among others,” Dlamini said. He said the local media houses expected there also included the Eswatini Observer, Channel Yemaswati, Voice of the Church (VOC) and any other available. The Media XI manager, author of this article, alongside Captain Molelekeng said they were ready to show their rivals UNESWA that they were not about reporting about the game but also can play.“We’re organising ourselves to present a better team than in the first edition last year. The good thing is that everyone was gradually realising the importance of staying fit so this has helped some stop the procrastination of our fitness transformation,” the team manager said.Molelekeng reiterated his words, saying this was no longer just about participating but an initiative that should encourage all to take body exercise seriously and do it daily of more often to stay fit and healthy.Meanwhile, the main match will be Mhlume FC Legends against Simunye FC Legends at 3pm. This will be preceded by the Media XI and UNESWA at 1pm.
