SIBETSAPHI HIGH SCHOOL HIT INSTACASH E20K SCHOOLS JACKPOT
MANZINI – Sibetsaphi High School made history by becoming the first-ever Instacash Schools Soccer Tournament champions.
The Lubombo underdogs defied all odds and stunned the favourites Evelyn Baring High School from Shiselweni with a 1-0 victory. Sibetsaphi’s hero was Mazwi Ngcamphalala, who scored the decisive goal at the hour-mark with a clinical finish. Sibetsaphi were rewarded with the E20 000 cash prize, trophy and gold medals for the triumph.
The champions also showed their dominance by defeating Manzini Central High School 2-0 in the semi-finals. The runners-up Evelyn Baring, had to settle for a consolation prize of E10 000. They had a lot of chances to score but failed to convert. They dominated the first half but could not break through the solid defence of Sibetsaphi, who relied on counter-attacks.
Meanwhile, Eric Rosenberg High School claimed the third place after thrashing Manzini Central High School 3-1. They earned E5 000 for their efforts, while Central went home empty-handed.Instacash sponsored the Eswatini Schools Sports Association (ESSA) High schools open category to the tune of E350 000. Back to the game, Evelyn Baring tried to turn things around in the second half but were caught off guard by a failed offside trap that allowed Ngcamphalala to score.
