MBABANE – The national team Sihlangu international home games will dig deeper into the EFA’s coffers.
This follows that Sihlangu is likely to host all their 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers games away from home, as the country is currently without a qualifying stadium for international matches. Usually, Sihlangu host their home games at Mbombela Stadium, due to that Somhlolo Stadium and Mavuso Sports Centre do not meet the Confederation of Africa Football (CAF) standards. The Somhlolo National Stadium is currently undergoing renovations. As things stand, Mbombela Stadium booking fee start from no less than E80 000.

This means if Sihlangu play all their home games in Mbombela at this booking fee, it will cost the Eswatini Football Association (EFA) around E480 000, if they are charged the minimum E80 000 booking fee. Sihlangu will host five World Cup 2026 qualifiers away from home, plus one remaining AFCON 2023 qualifier match against Burkina Faso. It can also be more than E480 000 as it depends on the number of days the EFA books the stadium, with fees also going up to E120 000 per day.

Efforts to get comments from EFA on their home games possible change were futile, as the Marketing and Communications Officer; Muzi Radebe could not be reached immediately.
The Dominic Kunene-led charges’ next attraction after the AFCON will be the World Cup qualifiers game between November 13 and 21 this year. Their following game will be between June 3 and 11 in 2024 while their third FIFA 2026 World Cup qualifier will be between March 17 and 25, 2025 while the fourth match will be between October 6 and 14, 2025.
Sihlangu have been grouped against Cameroon, Cape Verde, Angola, Libya and Mauritius in group D.

The winners of each group (nine groups) will qualify for the showpiece. The four best runners-up will fight in a mini-tournament for a spot in an intercontinental play-off for a place in the World Cup. The 2026 FIFA World Cup will be co-hosted by Canada, Mexico and the United States of America and will feature 48 teams for the first time.
