MBABANE - There was no time to rest for Athletics Eswatini (AE) President Zakhele Dlamini last weekend.

This is more so because soon after the successful Women’s Challenge 10km run in Lobamba, he had to fly out of the country to neighbouring South Africa (SA). “I had to fly out after the AE Women’s Challenge to SA for another athletics event. As the Southern Africa Region president, I had to attend the ABSA Run My City in Johannesburg,” Dlamini said.

The AE Women’s Challenge was last Saturday morning, and it was attended by over 1 000 enthusiastic young and old women, including the girl child. It was meant to encourage women participation in sport and also a warm-up to the much-anticipated fifth edition of the Imbube Marathon, which is deemed the biggest athletic event in the country. It is an event also attended by the king and all types of people as it has 42.2km, 21km, and 10km to cater for all, even the elderly.

Dlamini said it was an honour to be part of the ABSA race amid that no liSwati was there as an athlete. About the AE Women’s Challenge, he said it was a successful run in which they added the 5km run as there were young children who attended and ready to partake. He further expressed his utmost gratitude to all the officials and participants for making it a success. Dlamini did not forget to mention this publication for the unconditional support it rendered before, during and after, including the banners with messages of hope against gender-based violence. Meanwhile, Dlamini returned home on Tuesday afternoon. The Imbube Marathon takes place tomorrow morning in Lobamba.
