UBOMBO SUGAR WIN EMF GOLF TOURNEY
EZULWINI - Ubombo Sugar are the reigning champions of the 2023 End Malaria Fund (EMF) Golf Day Tournament.
They were crowned champions yesterday after they proved the better team in the tournament at the Royal Swazi Villas. The team scored 97 points, beating 17 other teams that participated in the charity event. The competition was organised by the EMF in an effort to fundraise money towards the elimination of malaria by 2025. The tournament was played in a four-ball alliance format. Ubombo Sugar’s team consisted of Captain Colani Dlamini, Machawe Ndlovu, Welcome Vilane and Mzwandile Msibi.
They were awarded a four-ball invitation to play in South Africa (SA) during the Number 43 Trelawney Park in April next year. It includes transport and accommodation, with an incentive of participating in the chairman’s Multi-Choice Golf Club Tournament if they win the former. The Ubombo Sugar captain declared the EMF as the winner for the successful tournament. He said they were able to achieve their goal, raising about E180 000, an increase from E100 000 from the maiden edition. Colani attributed hard work and determination in training as their secret to success.
However, runners-up were the Taiwan Embassy in Eswatini, who scored 97 c/o points. The third place went to the team from the hosts EMF, who scored 92 c/o points. Meanwhile, Eswatini Royal Insurance Corporation (ESRIC) was fourth. Meanwhile, the Ministry of Health thanked the End Malaria Fund for its continued resource mobilisation. Speaking through the Under Secretary Ncamsile Mtshali on behalf of the principal secretary, the ministry, said malaria is still a disease they strive to eliminate.
“As the ministry we continue to fight hard to win this battle, but some of the known challenges that ministry faces such as staff shortages in facilities and drug shortages for complicated malaria (Artesunate) and the prevention of malaria (Primaquirine) make the endeavour hard,” she said.
