OUR SPONSORS, OUR LIFEBLOOD
Sunday greetings!
Without the constant financial aid from our corporate friends, local sports can only do so much. We have never hidden the fact that our sports need all the help that they can get. By all the help, we mean just that. That is why it pleased the Eswatini Sports and Recreation Council (ESRC) to see MulaSport Betting Company, coming to the aid of the Basketball Association of Eswatini. The company has forked out E30 000 towards the association. We are very grateful for such a generous gesture. The company has proven to be one of the sport’s best friends. Indeed, with friends like these, local sports can go far. The gesture by MulaSport Betting should be a challenge to other companies, in particular the country’s corporates to follow suit. Investing in sports is never a waste. There are just so many benefits, honestly.
We have been made to understand by the association that the sponsorship will be divided equally with women’s basketball and wheelchair basketball getting an equal share. The games will run until November 19, 2023 at the Coronation Park. The basketball association has done well to organise such a tournament for them. It is everybody’s basic right to play sports. That is why we fully support such a brilliant initiative. Long may such a spirit continue.
Rugby president off to France
The Eswatini Rugby Association President Bandile Vilakati has left the country for France to watch the Rugby World Cup Finals. He left the country through the King Mswati III International Airport, yesterday. He has not only gone to watch the Rugby World Cup finals, but will also attend the World Rugby General Assembly meeting with other presidents from the continent and indeed the rest of the world. He will then proceed to watch the Bronze Final and the final, then attend the world cup Awards ceremony. He will also have side meetings with the Rugby Africa president, together with the African union’s presidents, especially those who are still under the development to continue talks on development of the sport.
Table Tennis on right track
We have said it before that one of our recognised National Sports Associations; the Eswatini Table Tennis Association is definitely on the right track. The association is now eager to host a National Activity Practical Workshop to achieve its desired goals of developing the sport of table tennis in the country. It is a fact that table tennis in the country is still in the development stages, countrywide. This programme is sponsored by the International Table Tennis Federation. The good thing is that the association has seen the need to train more coaches. The association has plans to host an ITTF-PTT Level One Coaching Course, which is scheduled for December, 2023. The association is expecting to host at least 30 participants for the workshop. 60 per cent of these will be male participants, 30 per cent female participants and 10 per cent will be people with disabilities. The country is blessed beyond measure in that we have two international table tennis coaches in Percy Zulu and Muzi Dube.
Team Eswatini for Aquatics Championships
The Eswatini Swimming Association is eager to bring back gold medals from the 8th Africa Aquatics Zone III Swimming Championships, which are scheduled for Kigali, in Rwanda.
The championships will run from November 23 to 26, 2023. Renowned and well-travelled coach, Welcome Nhlabatsi is expected to lead Team Eswatini to the Championships.
Up-and-coming young swimmers, Luca Fraser and Kendra Mac Namara will form the local team, which will obviously be thrown into the lion’s den. We are fully aware that it is never easy in such competitions. Until next week, sports for all; sport for all!
