MBABANE – The death of the late legend Bongani ‘Ndezi’ Masangane, has been linked to suspected food poisoning, according to his aunt, Thoko Maziya.

This claim arose following recent developments on social media, which suggested that the late Sihlangu defender died as a result of food poisoning. Maziya stated that on his deathbed, ‘Ndezi’ informed her that he had consumed food from a person who might have laced it with poison. He mentioned that he started experiencing stomach cramps after eating the food, which he believed had been poisoned. Ndezi passed away at the Mbabane Government Hospital, with blood coming from his mouth and nose and his stomach bulging.

poisoning

During ‘Ndezi’s hospitalisation, the attending doctor noted that his liver was damaged, leading the family to suspect that the alleged food poisoning had caused the liver damage. However, the family was divided on whether to conduct a post-mortem examination. Some family members felt that it was against cultural practices and could leave the body in a bad state, while others believed it would provide clarity on the cause of death.

Ultimately, they decided not to proceed with the post-mortem and laid Ndezi to rest without conducting it. Thoko expressed gratitude to the Eswatini Football Association (EFA), clubs, friends, relatives, supporters, and the Manzini Social Group for their contributions and support during this difficult time.
