MBABANE – This weekend, attention turns away from the league action, as the Ingwenyama Cup defending champions, Green Mamba, face off against Nsingizini Hotspurs in a highly anticipated quarter-final fixture.

The Correctional Services outfit, under the guidance of Ernest Mavuso, go to this game amid a difficult period in the league, having failed to secure a victory in their last five matches. However, today’s quarter-final fixture in the Ingwenyama Cup offers them the opportunity to return to their winning ways.

Tricky

It is worth noting that Inyoka Eluhlazane progressed to this stage after a tricky match against Manzini Sea Birds, where they won 4-3 in a penalty shootout, following a 1-1 draw in regulation time. On the other hand, Insingiz Yezulu, under the leadership of Zimbabwean coach Alexio Sergion, have earned a reputation as cup specialists after clinching back-to-back MoMo Cup titles.

The team has shown signs of improvement under their new coach, avoiding defeat in their last four games, including their Ingwenyama Cup match against Denver Sundowns, which they won 2-0. Both teams boast an array of talented players, even though the hosts recently lost their captain, Mxolisi ‘Kudus’ Mkhonto, who joined Botswana’s Jwaneng Galaxy.

Experienced

However, they can rely on other experienced players like Sabelo ‘Sikhali’ Ndzinisa, who has already scored three goals in the tournament. Additionally, Njabulo ‘D4D’ Ndlovu, who has just recovered from a groin injury, and Mthunzi ‘Xavi’ Mkhontfo are all expected to lead the forces team in their pursuit of reaching the semi-finals of this lucrative tournament.

The Derrick Shiba-coached side also possess several good players. Nyasha Chintuli, a recent signing who scored an impressive hat-trick in his debut match last month, is a force to be reckoned with. Thubelihle ‘Messi’ Mavuso, currently in impressive form, could cause significant problems for the host’s defence, which has conceded a number of goals in recent matches.

Rejuvinated

Furthermore, Sizwe ‘Madumane’ Khumalo, who joined the team from Moneni Pirates, seems rejuvenated and could pose a significant threat to the host. Given the stakes in this match, both teams will be highly motivated to secure victory. The Ernest Mavuso side claimed an impressive 4-0 win over Nsingizini Hotspurs in a recent league meeting, but today’s game is a different scenario with a semi-final berth on the line.

The two teams’ previous encounter adds an extra layer of entertainment to this fixture and it will be interesting to see how the Shiselweni-based side respond to the defeat and whether Green Mamba can maintain their impressive form having not lost against Nsingizini.
