LUCA MISSES OUT ON BRONZE IN DUBAI
MBABANE – “The GD6 was just seconds away.”
These were the words of Eswatini Swimming Association Secretary General Nozipho Mahlalela, when commenting on Luca ‘GD6’ Fraser’s performance after narrowly missing out on a bronze medal in the finals of the 200-meter breaststroke at the Dubai Open and Junior Swimming Championships.
Earlier in the competition, the talented swimmer had successfully qualified for the finals of the same event at the Hamdan Sports Complex in Dubai. Fraser secured his position in the finals by achieving a first-place finish in his heat during the preliminary rounds.
Mahlalela acknowledged that GD6 narrowly missed out on a medal by securing fifth place in his heat. However, she emphasised that the association is immensely proud of his achievements, as he has consistently showcased his talent in international competitions.
Medal
“Although GD6 was unable to secure a medal in the finals, we are incredibly proud of his accomplishments. As an association, we are confident that he will continue to represent our country well and achieve success in future international competitions,” she said.
The swimmer, along with his coach, Welcome Nhlabatsi, departed for the Championships on Monday, which will conclude tomorrow at the Hamdan Sports Complex. The venue boasts a 50-meter, 10-lane pool and is expected to host over 40 teams from across the Middle East. Last year, Dubai welcomed over 934 swimmers from more than 15 nations to this prestigious event.
