MBABANE - Yesterday, the MTN headquarters in Ezulwini was abuzz with excitement as it hosted the prestigious MTN Player of the Month awards ceremony.

The event saw the deserving recognition of Manzini Wanderers versatile Skipper Mlamuli ‘Mlaba’ Nkambule and National First Division log leaders Celimphilo Zwane, for their outstanding contributions during the month of January this year when two games were played. ‘Mlaba’, who walks away with E6 000, was influential for Wanderers during the period under review, after scoring the decisive goal against Green Mamba.  He went on to inspire the side to a great comeback during the 2-all draw with Moneni Pirates in the big Manzini derby.

The industrious Nkambule expressed the profound significance of the award, emphasising that it held deep personal meaning for him. He graciously dedicated the accolade to the entire Wanderers family, particularly acknowledging the unwavering support of his teammates. Nkambule also extended heartfelt gratitude to his family for their steadfast encouragement, as well as to the management and coaches of Wanderers, for their consistent support, especially during periods of injury. “The award means a lot to me; but what I can start with is to say thank you to the Manzini Wanderers management, my teammates, the coaches and not to forget my family for the support. They have all been there for me, especially when I had sustained injuries,” expressed the Manzini Wanderers skipper.

Speaking to his commitment and perseverance, Nkambule emphasised his dedication to rigorous training, both individually and with the team, underscoring that this diligence had been instrumental in earning him the prestigious award. Furthermore, he candidly acknowledged that while the award brought added pressure, particularly in the context of the team’s imperative to avoid relegation, he viewed this as a driving force for achieving success. On the other hand, Sisonke’s dynamic attacking midfielder, Zwane, shared his perspective on the award, expressing his intent to reserve celebration until his team achieved promotion from the National First Division (NFD) to the Premier League of Eswatini (PLE).

Promotion

He underscored the enduring significance of a team achievement compared to individual honours, stressing on the collective focus on securing promotion as the primary objective. Zwane conveyed deep appreciation to the entire Sisonke community and the supporters, stressing that the award was a testament to the team’s collective effort, rather than an individual triumph.
He attributed his motivation to the cohesive spirit of the team, accentuating that his success was intricately intertwined with the team’s unwavering support. “I won’t celebrate this award now, but I will celebrate it at the end of the season, when we have been promoted, because we are all looking at getting the promotion to the Premier League,” expressed Zwane, who got E2 000 for his achievement.

Thulani Nhlabatsi, representing MTN Eswatini, extended heartfelt congratulations to both players for their remarkable accomplishments as the January MTN Players of the Month.
He elaborated on Mlamuli Nkambule’s remarkable goals, encouraging supporters to witness these incredible moments on the Ayoba App, a platform that showcased Nkambule’s exceptional free-kick goal against Moneni Pirates and his goal against Green Mamba, garnering significant viewership. He revealed that on the Ayoba App, Mlmuli’s goal has garnered a total of 112 views from the free kick goal he scored against Moneni Pirates, while there were 148 views from his goal against Green Mamba.
