MBABANE – Moneni Pirates may have to pay a hefty fine after their record win on Saturday following their fans’ unsporting behaviour.

Pirates shocked Green Mamba when they beat them 1-0 to record their first MTN Premier League win since March 5, 2023 and after 17 games this season. Overwhelmed by happiness, Pirates fans could not contain themselves and ran straight onto the pitch after referee Thokozani Dlamini’s final whistle on Saturday. Such behaviour may attract fines as spelled out in the MTN Premier League Rules and Regulations for the 2023/24 season. The ‘Buccaneers’, as they are popularly known, could be charged for fans’ pitch invasion. They further face charges of failure to control their fans.

Article 55.3(1) states failure to control fans, supporters, officials and marshal is punishable with a fine not less than E2 5000 by the DC. Article 55.3(3) carries a E25 000 sanction for invading the pitch before, during and after the game by supporters, fans, a steward, or spectators in celebration of a goal. Eswatini Football Association (EFA) Disciplinary Committee (DC) is eligible to level such fines against a team only if the said misconduct is captured in the match officials’ report of the game. Match officials are expected to write and submit their reports two days after their game.
