EFA AWAITING REPORT ON COACH DOMINIC
MBABANE – “We told the technical committee to give us areport on Dominic.”
These were the words of the Eswatini Football Association (EFA) President Peter ‘Samora’ Simelane on the future of the national team Sihlangu Head Coach Dominic Kunene. It was reported that the former Young Buffaloes gaffer’s contract lapsed on March 31, 2024. The EFA then roped in MTN Premier League and PLE Trade Fair award-winning mentor in Green Mamba’s Ernest Mavuso and former Royal Leopard championship winning coach Sifiso ‘Nuro’ Ntibane into the national team set-up. When contacted to shed light on the future of Kunene with Sihlangu, the president disclosed that they were waiting for the report from the technical committee on the performance of the coach while at the helm with squad.
Act
“We are still waiting for Kunene’s report from the technical committee, but we have told the committee to give us the coach’s report soon so that we can act on it,” Simelane said. He was quick to highlight that once the report reaches his office, the EFA would be in a better position to then give a full update on Kunene’s future in the Sifiso ‘Ayoba’ Matse-captained squad. It is worth mentioning that Kunene’s last matches for Sihlangu before his contract expired on Sunday was the two-legged 2025 TotalEnergies Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) preliminary round against Somalia last week. Sihlangu advanced to the group stages on 5-2 aggregate and these matches served as Mavuso and Ntibane official games as Sihlangu coaches. Meanwhile, Kunene, who joined Sihlangu in 2019 after taking over from former DStv Premiership side Orlando Pirates Coach Kostadin Papic was quoted saying that the two coaches would add value to the squad.
