REPS REIGN SUPREME OVER UEDF
LOBAMBA – The Royal Eswatini Police Service (REPS) emerged victorious in a thrilling battle against UEDF in the Swaziland Building Society (SBS) netball tournament held at OlympAfrica Centre Netball Court in Lobamba yesterday.
The SBS netball tournament saw a fierce battle between REPS and UEDF, with REPS emerging victorious in the end. The game was close throughout, with both teams fighting hard for every point. In the end, REPS’ skill and determination were too much for UEDF, and they were able to secure a victory of 60-33. The police side dominated with the highest number of points in all the four quarters of the game. It was an interesting, but tense game to watch as both teams heated a fight towards the end of the last quarter. REPS Goal Defender (GD) S’lindile Dlamini played foul against UEDF Goal Scorer (GS) Andiswa Dlamini. This then resulted in the game being paused for about five minutes while Andiswa was attended to by the team doctors. S’lindile, who was assumed to have committed the foul was later escorted to the REPS mini bus immediately after the game as UEDF ladies team wanted to get explanations on her behaviour.
Speaking to the current log leaders Captain Bathabile Nkambule, she revealed that the game was important to them and was a must win as they were determined to win the league. “We came here determined to win the game as it is of great importance to us since we are targeting to win the league. Our next meeting will be against Correctional Services team, which I think will also be tough. We will try by all means to get better results and train hard because our goal is to reach the finals and further bring the cup home,” Nkambule said. She further narrated that winning the first round motivated them and gave them belief that they stood better chances of winning the league.
Meanwhile, UEDF captain Xondile Mabuza disclosed that it was not their day and felt that the players were distracted by the commotion that transpired during the course of the game.
“The players were distracted after the quarrel between our player Andiswa and S’lindile. I think my team then lost focus and were then unable to give in as much effort as they could,” Mabuza said.
