MBABANE – Capital city giants, Mbabane Swallows, have sent a letter to the Premier League of Eswatini (PLE) voicing their opposition to the Correctional Band’s performance ahead of today’s highly anticipated Ingwenyama Cup finals.

Green Mamba, who are the defending champions, will compete against three-time winners Mbabane Swallows for the E1 400 000 grand prize in the highly anticipated finals at the Somhlolo National Stadium. The Mbabane giants have petitioned the PLE office, headed by Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Kenneth Makhanya, to halt the Correctional Band’s performance, as revealed in a letter shared with the publication yesterday afternoon. “We request that Correctional services band be not included in the activities of the Ingwenyama Cup final. The request is based on the conflict that may arise, we are of the position that this will be improper and may be met with resistance by the fans,” reads the letter in part. PLE Chief Executive Officer Kenneth Makhanya said Correctional services revealed that the REPS band would be the one performing during the finals. “Only the REPS Band will be playing tomorrow (today),” he briefly said.

maintain respect

The CEO urged supporters to maintain respect and accepts the results of the match, emphasising the importance of sportsmanship and unity as the events will be watched across the nation and attended by distinguished guests, including Their Majesties. “I urge supporters to embody the spirit of fair play by graciously accepting match results and conducting themselves respectfully throughout the events. In light of the nationwide audience and esteemed attendees, including their majesties, let us come together in unity and friendship to celebrate the true essence of sportsmanship,” Makhanya said.

frequently performs

The Correctional Band frequently performs at major finals throughout the country, including the memorable performance when Inyoka Eluhlazane triumphed 6-0 over Umkhonto KaShaka during the PLE Trade Fair Cup at Mavuso Sports. Alongside the Correctional Band, the Royal Eswatini Police Service (REPS) also often performs during domestic finals in the country. Meanwhile, the publication reported in our sister newspaper, the Times of Eswatini yesterday that Ingwenyama Cup sponsored by Sincephetelo Motor Vehicle Accidents Fund (SMVAF) tournament pre-sale 7 000 tickets were sold out.
