SWALLOWS CAN STILL QUALIFY FOR CAF – BISHOP LUKHELE
LOBAMBA – Mbabane Swallows President Archbishop Bheki Lukhele has stressed that his team had high chances of going to play in Africa.
The All Nations Church in Zion founder who still has ties with Swaallows was part of the over 7 000 fans who witnessed the thrills of 2023/24 Ingwenyama Cup sponsored by Sincephetelo Motor Vehicle Accidents Fund (SMVAF) tournament yesterday. The iconic Somhlolo National Stadium witnessed this encounter.
penalty
Forces side Green Mamba secured the E1.4 million prize, courtesy of forward Sabelo ‘Sikhali’ Ndzinisa who scored a penalty against Swallows. “With the remaining league games I believe Swallows can win it when comparing our points to current log leaders. This will in turn secure us a ticket to Africa,” Lukhele said. It is worth noting that MTN Premier League winners automatically earn a ticket to play in Confederation of African Football (CAF) Champions League. Swallows became the first Eswatini team to compete in group stages of this tournament during the 2017/18 season. They have also competed in CAF Confederation Cup tournament during the 2016/17 season.
motivated
The President further motivated ‘Birds’ players to continue working hard. “It is sad to lose but such a result is expected when playing finals. The players worked hard and lost this match due to the penalty. Otherwise, it was going to be a goalless draw on regulation time. We had a lot of chances than Green Mamba,” Lukhele said. Meanwhile, skipper and seasoned forward Sandile Hlatjwako said they did not come to the party. “Apologies to fellow supporters as we thought the gold was ours. We gave them an early goal and failed to make a comeback. Even the weather conditions were unfavourable. However, we still have hope that the league will be ours,” he said.
