MBABANE – Relegation-threatened 10-men Moneni Pirates lived to see another day following a 2-0 victory over neighbours Manzini Sea Birds at KaLanga Technical Centre yesterday.

This game marked their second league victory since the 2023/24 season began. The white and black ensemble broke their ‘curse’ when they won against forces side Green Mamba by 1-0 on February 24, this year.
Despite reportedly being given a red card during first half, the Gcina Dlamini-led outfit proved its dominance during second half break.

Deadlock

The deadlock was broken when forward Thembela Shabangu converted from the penalty spot after 50 minutes. In addition, Sizwe Gwebu extended the lead just before the 80th minute sealing the victory against Izinyoni Zolwandle.
Following their win, Pirates moved up to 12th spot of log standings yesterday with 17 points after 21 games. Meanwhile, their opponents maintained position nine with 23 points, following the two unanswered goals defeat.
The Sea Robbers were looking to turn the tables when they welcomed Sea Birds in the MTN Premier League clash yesterday.

Honour

The league games are back after a one-week hiatus courtesy of the recently concluded Sincephetelo Motor Vehicle Accidents Fund (SMVAF) sponsored Ingwenyama Cup, which was played at the Somhlolo National Stadium, last Sunday. MTN Premier League defending champions Green Mamba beat Mbabane Swallows 1-0 to be crowned winners in the presence of His Majesty King Mswati III.
