MBABANE – As it was another dry spell for Royal Leopard this past season, the police side has been ordered to end the two season’s trophy drought.

The Edwin Matsebula’s led side’s last moment of triumph happened in the 2021/22 season. During this season, they won their eighth league title, which was their last silverware until the present season. However, Senior Deputy National Commissioner (NATCOM) of Police Vusi Masango, has urged the team to valiantly end the trophy drought.

“Don’t be discouraged for not winning anything, it was not your season but do fight to come back stronger next time. Let’s see to it that we win one trophy next season,” Masango said. Leopard finished fifth in the log charts of the league in the 2023/24 season.

They were also not successful in getting some silverware in the other two competitions which they participated in.
These were the Premier League of Eswatini (PLE) Trade Fair Cup as well as the Sincephetelo Motor Vehicle Accidents Fund (SMVAF) sponsored Ingwenyama Cup.

“Even without any silverware to showcase for the past football season, never undermine yourselves and the talent you possess,” Masango further said during the team’s building exercise held at Luphohlo Dam. The deputy NATCOM also encouraged the players to take leaf from the previous season’s experiences to bounce back stronger next season.

He also praised the non-police players for their dedication to the team and the police service at large. Masango also welcomed foreign players to join the squad and contribute ideas that could propel the team towards winning trophies.

Meanwhile, Coach Matsebula expressed optimism that they would overturn their fortunes next season. As the players were dispatched to recharge ahead of next season, the team Manager Richard ‘Danka’ Fakudze gave them some nuggets how they could achieve their mandate.

“We have been always competing and this has been shown by the fact that all other teams give their best when playing against us. We ask that you take care of yourselves during the off-season so that when you return, we start on a high note, without injuries to regain our position in local football,” Fakudze said.
