MBABANE – “We are shaping our own Muhammad Alis.”

These were the words of Eswatini Boxing Association (EBA) Secretary General, Nathi Dlamini, at the Stepping Razor Boxing Academy’s tournament at Coronation Park yesterday. Dlamini  praised the over 60 boxers from various age groups, including cadets, juniors and young upstarts, for their exceptional boxing skills, impressive punches and overall performance, leaving the crowd of over 50 spectators in awe and admiration.

In some of the bouts, Amahle ‘The Tornado’ Dlamini of U-Tech club pounded her way to a split decision victory against Hlelo ‘The Hammer’ Gina of Zebra Force Boxing Club, while Thabiso ‘The Destroyer’ Zikalala of Titans crushed Simiso ‘The Cyborg’ Ginindza of the same club, earning a unanimous points decision. The secretary general of the association said he was elated with the performances of the young boxers at the tournament.

Awe-inspiring

“It was truly an awe-inspiring sight to see these young boxers demonstrating such immense confidence and skill in their punches,” Nathi Dlamini stated. “The level of talent on display left everyone impressed. As an association, we believe that if we can organise more high-intensity tournaments, we will soon be able to produce world-class boxers, similar to the likes of the legendary Muhammad Ali,” he said.

Meanwhile, one of the directors of Mbabane Trading Company stated that giving back to the community was important for the company as they believed that the youth were the future. The director was reportedly pleased with the overall performance of the participants in the tournament and believed that similar events played a significant role in fostering sportsmanship and encouraging the development of young athletes in the community. “Contributing to our community is an essential aspect of our corporate agenda,” Dlamini said.

Companies

“We are excited to support other sporting events in the country, and we urge other companies to invest in grassroots-level tournaments, which give young athletes the opportunity to showcase their talents. Not only do these tournaments keep the youth active and engaged, but they also help foster a spirit of sportsmanship and encourage the development of their skills,” he said. The Stepping Razor Boxing Academy’s tournament was generously sponsored by two companies: Mbabane Trading Company, which contributed E3 000, and Oracle Insurance, which added E5 000 to ensure the event’s success. The sponsors’ financial support enabled the tournament to be a resounding success, with many young boxers showcasing their skills and demonstrating impressive sportsmanship.
