ESWATINI WRESTLERS TO DEBUT IN AFRICAN BEACH CHAMPS

MBABANE – Wrestlers Sihle Dlamini and Nkosinathi Makhanya are set to make history, as they will compete in the African Beach Wrestling Championships in Dakar, Senegal.

This competition takes centre stage this coming Saturday and Sunday. It marks the first time that Eswatini is represented in the African Beach Wrestling Championships. Wrestling is relatively a new sport in the country and the participation of Dlamini and Makhanya signifies a significant milestone for the sport in Eswatini. Dlamini will compete in the Under-60kg category, while Makhanya will sweat it out in the under-70kg category.

The athletes receive support from various organisations such as the Eswatini Sports and Recreational Council (ESRIC), Eswatini Olympic and Commonwealth Games Association (EOCGA) and the wrestling mother body, which covers expenses such as air tickets, accommodation, registration and meals.

The two wrestlers will be under the guidance of Coach Gugulethu Mamba. In addition to competing, the athletes will also participate in coaching classes, highlighting the focus on their holistic development within the sport. Eswatini Wrestling President Sydney Simelane was reported to be in a meeting when sought for comment.
