MBABANE – It is a done deal!

This is the story of Mbabane Swallows, who have since secured the state-of-the-art Zimpeto Stadium in Mozambique, for their TotalEnergies CAF Champions League. An impeccable source close to Umkhonto KaShaka revealed that the side had successfully negotiated with the authorities to use the stadium at a cheaper rate.

The source revealed that the Caleb Ngwenya-coached side would part with E40 000 to use the facility for their upcoming inter-club continental games. The red and white capital city giants, according to the source, went to Mozambique to seek help to host their home match, as Eswatini still did not have a stadium that meets the Confederation of African Football (CAF) as well as the International Federation of Football Associations (FIFA) standards. This is after both the Mavuso Sports Centre and the Somhlolo National Stadium were banned from hosting games of such magnitude.

“Mbabane Swallows are good in negotiating, as they will pay E40 000 to use the Zimpeto Stadium,” the source explained. The source said Umkhonto KaShaka were lucky considering that Green Mamba, who were representing the country in the same tournament last year, reportedly paid over E200 000 to use the same venue. It is worth mentioning that Green Mamba disclosed that they parted with E500 000 in hosting one of the games in Mozambique and they decided against playing in Africa this year after winning the Ingwenyama Cup. Meanwhile, Swallows Public Relations Officer (PRO) Knowledge Ngwenya could not be drawn for comments by the time this report was compiled, as his phone rang unanswered.
