MBABANE – “The experience of playing in the COSAFA will help us a lot in the Confederation Cup.”

These were the words of Nsingizini Hotspurs goalkeeper Sibusiso ‘Baraba’ Dlamini during the national team Sihlangu Media Day, which was held at Lobamba Technical Centre, two days ago. ‘Baraba’ is part of the 25 Sihlangu players currently in camp, preparing for the 2024 Hollywoodbets Council of Southern Africa Football Associations (COSAFA) billed for the Eastern Cape, Gqeberha, later this month. The national team shot-stopper said the experience of playing in the annual regional football flagship tournament would help them when they play in the inter-club continental tournament this season.

“We will be playing against players with experience in continental football and this will help us a lot as Nsingizini Hotspurs players,” Dlamini said. The Shiselweni-based side contributed five players to the youthful squad which was named by the national Under-23 Head Coach Sifiso ‘Nuro’ Ntibane at Sigwaca House, a week ago. The players are Nkhosingiphile Shongwe, Thubelihle Mavuso, Sibonginkhosi ‘China’ Dlamini and Sambulo ‘Masoso’ Simelane as well as ‘Baraba’. It is worth mentioning that Insingizi Yezulu were given the green light to be the country’s envoys in the 2024/25 TotalEnergies CAF Confederation Cup by the Eswatini Football Association (EFA) after a recommendation by the Premier League of Eswatini (PLE) Executive Committee (ExCo).

This was after the Sincephetelo Motor Vehicle Accidents Fund (SMVAF) sponsored Ingwenyama Cup champions Green Mamba declined to represent the country due to financial challenges coming with playing in Africa. Meanwhile, Sihlangu have been pitted in Group A with the likes of host nation South Africa, Botswana and Mozambique. ‘Nuro’s troops will begin their journey to conquer the region against the Zebras of Botswana on Wednesday at the Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium, kick off is 3pm.
