MBAANE - Eswatini wrestlers Siphesihle Dlamini and Nkosinathi Makhanya, are returning from their maiden African Beach Wrestling Championships in Dakar, Senegal, with renewed vigour.

The team represented the country fairly well. Dlamini exited in the second round and Makhanya was eliminated in the third round. This is per a correspondence from the Eswatini Wrestling Association. The competition was extremely intense, with the host, Senegal, having the highest number of participants and great technical abilities and experience among other participating nations such as Mali, South Africa, Senegal and Egypt. They are a competitive nation and showed why they deserved to host the event.  “Our team witnessed firsthand, for the first time, the massive following wrestling is enjoying in West Africa. They were wowed by the infrastructure and fan support for the sport,” shared the association.

“It is like wrestling is a religion. Wrestling has a stadium bigger than our national stadium,” shared Makhanya.  President Sydney Simelane said this was a great opportunity for wrestling in Eswatini.  “We are proud that our development priorities are on track. We are investing smartly and  correctly. Gugulethu Mamba attended a coaching course for Beach wrestling and walked out a qualified technician. This means more technical development for wrestling in the country.  “As they return to the ground, we expect them to share their experience and spread the passion in their clubs, communities and work environment. The future is definitely promising for us,” he said.
