MBABANE – Former capital city giants Mbabane Swallows Coach Christopher Ennin, is set to resurface at ‘rivals’ Mbabane Highlanders.

Reports suggest that the Ghanaian veteran gaffer has thrown his name inside the hat for the top position. The latter signed a two-year deal with Swallows back in 2020. He was replaced by now Denver Sundowns head gaffer Musa Manyatsi, after his departure from the club during the 2021/22 season. Following his departure, Ennin signed with Berekum Chelsea, a Ghanaian club in the 2022/23 season until last season.

He carved a niche for himself after guiding Denver Sundowns from relegation position to sixth place in the MTN Premier League of Eswatini (PLE) division prior to joining ‘Birds’. Mbabane Highlanders are reportedly on the lookout for a possible new coach ahead of this season. Ennin has incredible coaching experience, having served in various capacities throughout his coaching career. He previously coached some clubs in Thailand. They include Sakkaeo, Rayong, Kampang Phet and Korat Mazda. Ennin has a wealth of experience, as he is in possession of CAF A Licence and other coaching qualifications, including the FAT A Coaching Certificate (Thailand). He also has a Bachelor of Commerce Degree from Cape Coast University. When quizzed regarding the reports, Ennin said he could consider the position if advertised.

“I have unfinished business in the Kingdom of Eswatini,” he said. Meanwhile, reports suggested that current Inkunzemnyama gaffer Milton ‘Spanish’ Dlamini, will lead the team as a Technical Director (TD). His duties would be to oversee the senior, junior and women’s teams in the upcoming season. Milton is said to have been unsuccessful in getting a working permit with the local football mother body Eswatini Football Association (EFA).

The coach purportedly does not possess the CAF A Coaching Licence. Milton was unveiled by the  ‘BlackBull’ through their official social media page towards the end of last season on March 27. Under his guidance, the black and white ensemble finished in sixth place in the MTN Premier League. Ennin would not be the first foreign coach to lead Highlanders, as they were earlier led by South Africa-born gaffers who included Mlungisi ‘Professor’ Ngubane, Selaotse ‘Sly’ Mosele and Solly Luvhengo.

The club’s Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Musa Masuku, said he was not in a position to address team matters. “The PRO addresses everything related to Highlanders,” he said. Masuku was needed to test the veracity of the claims regarding the coach. Meanwhile, Public Relations Officer (PRO) Kenneth Dlamini could not be drawn for comment at the time of compiling this report, as his phone rang unanswered.
