MANZINI – A total of 16 teams that have registered under Madonsa Zonal League received E102 000 soccer kits and balls, courtesy of Mashayinkonjane Meat Butchery.

The teams were presented with 16 soccer kits and 32 soccer balls by Mashayinkonjane Meat Butchery Managing Director Sifiso ‘Mashayinkonjane’ Nhlengetfwa, who is also a Member of Parliament (MP) for Manzini North, yesterday at the head offices of the business at Madonsa. According to the businessman, who splashed E100 000 to sponsor the zonal league for five years (between 2019/20 and 2024/25 as 2020/21 season was affected by COVID-19), he was keeping his promise, which he made when launching the fire-year sponsorship in 2019, that before the start of the last leg of the deal, as a business, they would give the teams soccer kits and balls. Each team got a soccer kit and two soccer balls.

He said their wish as a business was to promote sports in communities in such a way that the youth could discover their talent and use it to earn a living. In fact, he said in developed countries, sports like football is taken as a professional job.“So far I man happy, as one of our referee was promoted to the premier league last season, which means that sooner or later, we will have soccer that will be recognised by premier league teams,” the businessman said. Meanwhile, Mnyenyweni Bucopho Philile Hlophe and Madonsa Royal Kraal representative Trevor Maphalala thanked Mashayinkonjane Meat Butchery on behalf of the football clubs for the kind gestures.

They said since the launch of the five-year sponsorship, crime rate had decreased in the community.  They added that the rate of drug abuse has also decreased because the soccer games keeps the youth busy.  They pleaded with the business to consider launching another sponsor, as the current one only has one season left.  The prize money for the first two seasons was E20 000 each, while the third and fourth season, which would start soon, it increased to E30 000 each, since in 2020/21, soccer games were suspended due to the outbreak of COVID-19.
