MBABANE – Siphofaneni Build it will host the highly-anticipated 18th Build it Under-13s soccer tournament today.

The event promises to be a spectacular celebration of community and sportsmanship, featuring special appearances by renowned retired professional soccer player Siyabonga Nomvethe and the store owner Malungelo Mamba,  to name a few. This year is expected to be no different, with teams from across the region competing for top honours and the chance to impress Nomvethe, who disclosed that he would pave a way for the local youngsters in South Africa, where he also heads a football development programme in KwaZulu-Natal. “I am here to motivate the young players and further encourage them to work hard, so that they can become the next Siyabonga Nomvethe,” he said.

Eswatini Football Association Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Frederick Mngomezulu, passed his gratitude to the Build it family for continuing to act as an effective football development in the country. “We are very happy to see Build it stores growing in the country; we have so many products of the programme such as the national team captain, Kwakhe Thwala; therefore, we ask the local community to support the store, as it is of benefit to the country at large,” Mngomezulu said.

Meanwhile, Build it tournament organiser in the Southern African Development Community (SADC), Les Pillay, said he was proud to see the level of the programme developing in this way. He mentioned that he observed progress in the programme since he first came here back in 2006. It is worth mentioning that Nomvethe holds the record as the all-time leading goalscorer in the South African Premier Division. He achieved this milestone by scoring a total of 123 goals in the league over the course of his career. The Build it tournament will commence today in Siphofaneni Sports Ground and this year’s edition will feature netball, to accommodate the girl child.
