MBABANE – South Africa’s DStv Premiership outfit SuperSport United have been confirmed as Mbabane Swallows opponents for the upcoming pre-season tournament to be played in South Africa.

SuperSport have been confirmed as the last club to participate in Mpumalanga Premier’s International Tournament. Our sister publication the Times of Eswatini reported last month that Umkhonto KaShaka had received an invitation from TS Galaxy Foundation to participate in an upcoming preseason international tournament. It is scheduled to take place at the Mbombela Stadium in Mpumalanga next month. According to a source at the club, the TS Galaxy Foundation has agreed to cover all expenses related to Swallows’ participation in the tournament, including travel, accommodation and other logistics.

Hosted by TS Galaxy Foundation, the tournament will see German Bundesliga team Augsburg FC, TS Galaxy and a third team from the Southern African Development Community (SADC) region competing for top honours.  According to the most recent developments reported in the 2023/243 MTN Premier League champions, the final team to join the tournament is South African DStv Premiership side SuperSport United. The tournament’s format involves two semi-finals, and SuperSport United will play the second of these matches against Swallows.

“I can confirm that the second game in the tournament will be between Mbabane Swallows and SuperSport United, a DStv Premiership side from South Africa. With this match-up set, the upcoming Mbombela Stadium tournament promises to be a highly-competitive and exciting preseason event,” the source stated. Meanwhile, Swallows Governor Sandile ‘Beyond 2000’ Zwane disclosed that a media day would be held to promote the tournament and he confirmed the publication’s recent report that outstanding players in the competition would be signed by teams participating in the tournament.

The Caleb ‘No Nonsense’ Ngwenya-led Swallows team recently participated in two preseason tournaments in South Africa last season. Swallows were invited to the 2023 Africa Day Celebration, where they defeated AmaZulu, and also took part in the annual Prince Mangosuthu Legacy Cup, which was played at Prince Mangosuthu Stadium in Ulundi, KwaZulu-Natal, a stadium named after the late traditional Prime Minister (PM) of the Zulu people.
